Plastic particles have been found in human kidney, liver, and brain tissue, and brain concentrations measured in 2024 were significantly higher than in 2016.¹ In a study of 257 patients, those with plastic particles in their arterial plaque had a higher rate of heart attack, stroke, or death over the following ~34 months than those without.³ Food packaging is one of the routes in.

 Researchers measured up to 4.22 million microplastic and 2.11 billion nanoplastic particles released from a single square centimeter of plastic container after three minutes of microwaving.⁴ Refrigerated and room-temperature storage released particles too — just fewer. "Microwave-safe" is a warping standard for plastic. It means the container won't deform. It says nothing about what ends up in your food.

Platinum-cured silicone is a fundamentally different material. It's thermally stable across freezer, microwave, oven (up to 425˚F) and dishwasher temperatures, and it doesn't degrade into shedding particles the way polypropylene and polyethylene plastics do. What you store food in is a choice with measurable consequences.
